Which Primer Does Each New-Build Surface Need?
New drywall, wood, MDF and metal can need different primers. Sealing a porous surface, blocking a stain and improving adhesion are different tasks, so a specification of 'one primer coat' may not explain the proposed system.
Ask which products suit each substrate and the intended finish. Nexa can review factory-finished components, exposed edges and unusual surface conditions before the scope is finalized. Agree on an inspection point after priming, when additional corrections can be identified and approved before finish coats. Why does new drywall need primer?
Drywall paper and joint compound absorb paint differently. Primer seals the surface, improves uniformity and helps reveal defects.
Is paint-and-primer-in-one enough?
Not usually as a substitute for dedicated drywall primer. New porous surfaces benefit from a primer designed to seal them.
What is high-build primer?
High-build primer has greater filling and surfacing properties. It can reduce minor texture differences but does not replace proper drywall finishing.
Does primer hide poor joints?
No. Primer may make defects easier to see, but ridges, scratches and joint issues need sanding or additional compound work.
Do wood and MDF need different primers?
Often, yes. End grain, MDF edges, tannin-prone wood and factory components can require different sealing or bonding products.
